A lot has been said about semen. Some swear it’s the perfect face cleanser. Others say it can help a woman grow bigger hips. Therefore, it’s not a thing of surprise to come across claims of semen being the perfect nutritious substance. Some say that swallowing semen has immense health benefits. Is this true? Let’s find out.
What is semen?
Semen is sperm plus seminal fluid. Sperm makes for 1-5% of semen while seminal fluid makes the rest, with water taking as much as 80%. We know semen is creamy, viscous and slightly yellowish. It does contain a lot of other stuff. There’s sugar, sodium, citrate, zinc, potassium, urea, calcium, lactic acid e.t.c. All these mainly help to nourish the sperm.
Is semen safe to ingest at all?
Ingesting semen shouldn’t lead to any problems. Of course, this doesn’t make it a substitute for our meals. But, oral sex can easily involve swallowing some semen. All you’ll get from swallowing semen is just swallowing it. Many say it’s a rich source of protein. While this true, you’d need to swallow litres on end to get any benefits from this protein. A teaspoon of ejaculate contains about 7 calories, which isn’t going to do much for your body.
Is there any danger in swallowing semen?
Yes, sometimes. In very rare cases, some people demonstrate allergy to semen. It’s known as human seminal plasma hypersensitivity (HSP). There can be pain, swelling, itching and redness as a result. In severe cases, trouble breathing may ensue. However, this condition is rare and very unlikely.
The other issue is that of STIs. There’s always that risk. Infections like gonorrhoea and chlamydia affect the throat. Herpes can be transmitted too. If you’ll be swallowing any semen, it better be from a partner who is well tested and certified healthy.
Are there any benefits at all?
Well, maybe. Studies say semen has some natural antidepressant properties. This is due to components such as endorphins, oxytocin, prolactin and serotonin. This research on young women shows that exposure to semen significantly improves mood. The vitamin C and antioxidants components are also said to contribute to stress relief. However, these studies are not exactly the holy grail. Sex is known to be a stress-relieving activity. Hence, you don’t need to go on swallowing litres of semen for better moods.
Should you spit or swallow? Your choice. Whatever you do, play safe sex. That’s crucial.
